Plagiarism Policy
The Journal of Advances in Computational and Intelligent Systems (ACIS) is committed to upholding the highest standards of academic integrity and originality. Plagiarism in any form is a serious violation of ethical publishing practices, and we take strict measures to prevent and address it.
1. Definition of Plagiarism
Plagiarism is the unethical practice of using another person's work, ideas, or words without proper attribution. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Direct Plagiarism: Copying text, figures, or ideas from another source without citation.
- Self-Plagiarism (Text Recycling): Republishing significant portions of one’s own previously published work without proper citation or justification.
- Mosaic Plagiarism: Paraphrasing someone else’s work while maintaining the original structure without citation.
- Fabrication and Falsification: Manipulating research data, figures, or results to mislead readers.
- Improper Citation: Failing to cite sources accurately or misrepresenting references.
2. Plagiarism Detection & Screening
ACIS uses plagiarism detection software (e.g., Turnitin, iThenticate, or PlagScan) to screen all submitted manuscripts. The editorial team evaluates similarity percentages and investigates any potential cases of plagiarism before peer review.
-
Acceptable Similarity Index:
- Less than 20% similarity is generally acceptable (excluding references and common phrases).
- Above 20% similarity will require revision or explanation.
- Above 30% similarity is considered unacceptable and may lead to immediate rejection.
-
Self-Plagiarism:
- Authors must cite their own previous work if it is used in the manuscript.
- Significant overlap (>10%) with previously published work without citation may result in rejection.
3. Consequences of Plagiarism
If plagiarism is detected at any stage—before or after publication—ACIS will take the following actions based on the severity of the case:
For Submitted Manuscripts (Before Publication):
- Minor Plagiarism (Similarity 20-30%):
- Authors are asked to revise and properly cite sources.
- Major Plagiarism (Similarity >30%):
- Immediate rejection of the manuscript.
- Authors may be blacklisted for future submissions.
For Published Articles (After Publication):
If plagiarism is detected post-publication, ACIS will:
- Retract the article from the journal’s website and issue a public retraction notice.
- Notify the author's institution and funding agencies about the plagiarism.
- Ban the author from submitting to ACIS for at least 3 years.
4. How to Avoid Plagiarism
To maintain academic integrity, authors should:
✔ Properly cite all sources used in the manuscript.
✔ Use quotation marks when copying verbatim text.
✔ Paraphrase correctly while ensuring the meaning is retained.
✔ Check their own work with plagiarism detection tools before submission.
✔ Avoid duplicate submissions of the same research.
5. Reporting Plagiarism
If you suspect plagiarism in a manuscript published in ACIS, please report it to myindacademia@yahoo.com with relevant details. All reports will be investigated confidentially.
